Deeply Rooted Island Heritage

Our vibrant island congregation traces its roots back to 1740 when it was founded as a Dutch Reformed church. For nearly a century, these passionate faithful gathered to worship and planted seeds of faith that forever changed the spiritual landscape of our shores.

Though the congregation disbanded in 1831, their legacy lived on through the historic church building itself. Purchased and remodeled by the Lutheran Church in Christiansted, this architectural treasure still stands proud on Kings Street - a enduring piece of our rich colonial history that can be visited and admired today.

After lying fallow for over 160 years, the Dutch Reformed tradition blossomed anew in 1992 when our congregation was re-established under the auspices of the Reformed Church in America. We took root once more, a dynamic re-planting nourished by the deep spiritual heritage of those 18th century sojourners.

Now, our modern church family joyfully carries the torch, our diversity reflecting the many cultures that make up these sunny isles. Yet we remain anchored to the unbroken line of Reformed beliefs and traditions that preceded us so many generations ago on this very ground.

We invite you to share in our unique legacy - to experience the passionate faith, Caribbean zeal, and trailblazing spirit that has defined our island's Reformed worship for over 280 years.

Our Beliefs & RCA Connection

The Wellspring of Our Faith

As a member church of the Reformed Church in America, St. Croix Reformed Church draws its spiritual nourishment from the deep wellspring of Reformed theology rooted in the Protestant Reformation.

Our beliefs are aligned with many other Reformed traditions including Presbyterian, United Methodist, and United Church of Christ - a diverse community united in Christ.

On our island home, we share a special kinship with the Moravian and Lutheran churches through our common heritage of openness, justice, and reconciliation in the name of our Savior. Though our local congregation welcomes members from all walks of faith, we are bound by these core Reformed tenets:

Christ is the center of our faith. Every human need and longing finds its answer in Jesus Christ alone.

We look to Holy Scripture as the ultimate authority - the living Word of God spoken through the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and minds to divine truth. The Holy Spirit breathes life into these sacred writings, allowing the Word to become real and transformative in our daily lives. This reliance on Scripture energized by the Holy Spirit has been, and will always remain, the authentic wellspring from which Reformed faith flows.
